Commissions
Some artists paint what they see. I paint what needs to be remembered.
Every commission that comes through A Beautiful Distraction begins the same way — with a conversation. Not about size or budget or turnaround time. About the person, the place, or the moment you need preserved. What it meant. What you need it to do. Who will stand in front of it fifty years from now and feel something they can't explain.
That conversation is the foundation everything else is built on.
From there, I work in layered oils or acrylic building skin tones from warm light to chromatic shadow, never reaching for a shortcut, never flattening what should have dimension. Whether I am painting a 36-inch portrait of a community elder or stretching across 384 square feet of a school lobby wall, the standard does not change. Every brushstroke is made with the understanding that this work will outlast both of us.
I accept commissions for:
Legacy portraits — individuals, elders, and community figures painted in oil on canvas or panel
Institutional portraits — permanently installed works for schools, organizations, and public spaces
Community and school murals — large-scale narrative work that roots a space in its history and people
Family portraits — painted heirlooms built to pass down
If you have a story that deserves to be painted, this is where it starts.
